My wife and I Entered the 1958 Packard in a Car Show and Had a Good Time
I took a local show and shine here in University Place, Washington. It was run by the local Judge by the name of Richard Salazar. The Judge is a movie fan from way back, having a small part in the film "M.A. Numminen Turns Rabbit - The Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Rabbits". A love of cars was developed over the years. I entered my 1958 Packard in the car show with the intention of getting a trophy. I spent four hours getting the Packard. I had done my research on the Packard by

London Part 1: The Best-Laid Plans
So weâve got to Brentwood after a long drive (entirely put in by the GLW on the basis of sheâs lovely, sheâs a more experienced driver than me, and itâs handy if the person in the passenger seat can read a map). Weâve said our hellos, weâve collapsed in armchairs after a lovely big bowl of spaghetti bolognese, and weâre planning the next day. The basic two things we want to do during our trip to London are The Natural History Museum (& Science Museum), and go to London Zoo. There are othe

Donât like higher taxes? Youâre SELFISH!
So now, opposing higher taxes and a socialist government makes you SELFISH! So says Obama: âThe reason that we want to do this, change our tax code, is not because I have anything against the rich,â Obama said in Sarasota, Florida, yesterday. âI love rich people! I want all of you to be rich. Go for it. Thatâs the America dream, thatâs the American way, thatâs terrific. âThe point is, though, that â" and itâs not just charity, itâs not just that I want to help the middle class and working peo

From the â25 Years To Win A Major Championship, 25 Seconds To Flip Over A Car Dept.â : I couldnât afford a full coverage insurance policy on my car so my insurance company wonât cover a vandalism claim. I also had to hire a towtruck to flip it back because Triple A doesnât cover this either. I canât afford to buy a new car or to have this one fixed - if itâs even possible. Safety Comes First
Wherever we go and whatever we do we make sure that weâre in good hands. We always think that every member in the family leaves home safely and get back home the same. Thatâs one reason why we get auto insurance. Itâs one way of giving protection to our love ones. If we have this we can handle the costs of possible expenses due to car accidents. However, thereâs an exception. Like for instance, if a careless student driver is the cause of an accident then he cannot avail whatâs intended for

100 Reasons Not to Vote for McCain
I like the Bill Press Show. Itâs one of the few weekday shows on Sirius Left that I like. Over the last couple of months, heâs come up with a list of 101 Reasons Not to Vote for John McCain. I cut it down to 100, because I personally donât like the first reason: You âgetâ to vote for Obama. Well, Iâd rather âgetâ to vote for Hillary. So that oneâs out. It still leaves 100 more very worthy reasons...which you can read after the jump..... The list is in order by date posted, not by pr

This Made Me Cry
A woman in the day care (I'll call her Susan, but that isn't her real name) had had an emergency. Susan is the oldest woman at the day care. She comes in early in the morning and opens the day care, sets things up, and prepares for the other workers to arrive. Yesterday after the other workers arrived they noticed that Susan was off by herself, and she was crying. The head of the day care (we'll call her Jenny) approached her and asked what was wrong. The staff down there is very close and the

12 Tips to Remember, To Avoid Getting Ripped Off by Your Car Dealer
Car selling is a very profitable business. This is why car salesmen are paid very well. It is said that salesmen who can sell cars can sell anything under the sun. More often than not, the true value of a car is never revealed to the prospect; there is always a markup and the manufacturers know this well. But they donât do anything about it, or should I say, they donât dare to do it. But how do you avoid getting ripped off by them? Here are some tips to consider: 1. Always buy a car off seas

My dad received a call from my brother last night. He had an accident and his new car got hit by another car. This is his first real investment so my brother was really disappointed. First, he did not get car insurance for his car so he has to shoulder the expense for the repair. And second, my family needs a car tomorrow since they will attend the birthday party of my cousin so they have no car to use since the car is still in the shop for repair. And third, he highly relies on his car to go to

Things To Remember When Shopping For A Used Car
Time to take the plunge and get a new car The transmission on my old car decided that it no longer wants to continue shifting as it should. After getting several repair estimates, we found that to fix the car would cost us over $2500 in repairs, along with another $1000 or more in other needed repairs in the near future. We decided that we just didnât want to pump that much money into a car that wasnât worth much more than $2500. So now weâre looking around to find a good, reliable used car t

I have no matching 401k from an employer, I am on my own! I pay over 11k a year in health insurance. I work 16 hours days six days a week. I pr

So heâs what I would call âperipherallyâ involved in our finances. I assume if you are reading this, you are like me. Completely, totally, obsessively involved in your familyâs finances and run the budget. Y

And the Saga Continues
Iâm sure you all are as tired of hearing about this as I am of talking about it. But you know what, itâs either get it all out or sit here and cry until I puke. I donât like throwing up so this is how itâs going. My renters bounced their rent check again. For anyone keeping tabs, thatâs four times in 21 months. Too bad for us is that we had already paid our mortgage and as a result of the two events colliding, my checking account is very much in the red and my savings account if frozen. YAY ME

When I Was A Childâ¦
When I Was A Child⦠Donât ask me why I woke up this morning thinking back to my days as a child. And how very much my heart aches for children who are troubled or in trouble. Donât ask why Iâve got a mind to stop what Iâm doing and drive around to the middle school thatâs in the back of my house and sit in my car and pray for every child thatâs in the building. If I didnât think the principal would call the police to have me locked up I would go into the building and demand that I be allowed

âBased on voting records, people would rather drive than voteâ
An interesting piece from the New York Times on the growing problem of handling older drivers who shouldnât be behind the wheel. Itâs quite striking how people, in the U.S. at least, take driving to be some kind of inalienable right â" rather than possessing the ability to operate heavy machinery in a safe manner. âHow am I going to tell a guy who fought for this country and has two Purple Hearts that I am going to take away his license and take away his freedom?â one police chief asked at the

Battening down in the hurricane
Itâs probably a bit late to batten down the hatches, since the perfect storm has already made landfall. On the other hand, I wasnât really expecting to get laid off, and now that looks like a strong possibility. So, today Iâm taking a series of steps to help weather bad times. Some of these, I think, apply to just about anyone in most situations. Hereâs some plywood to nail over the windows: 1. Britney Spears Bends A Fender

Just have Gerard Butler visit that guyâs ass. Thereâs no need to exchange insurance info. Gerard will just pummel that dude with his fists until he has only jagged stubs for left for teeth and will accquiesce to your demands to âletâs just keep that amoung us, yâokay?â He should have let her drive! Is the Shiny Car on the Lot Really Worth It?
by Eric Jilson This situation probably has happened to everyone: Youâre driving along the road and you notice that your car doesnât sound all that good. Before you realize whatâs happening, your poor car takes its last gasps on the side of the road. You need a new car. Television ads tell you that you need a new car. Although a new car does sound appealing, youâve also heard from friends that buying a new car is a better idea in the long run. Youâre faced with a tough decision. This article wi

Novel Notes
I figured itâs about time for me to write a post about my NaNoWriMo project for this year, right? Especially now that the Kick-Off is over, I have time to plan my novel which Iâve been meaning to work on since this month started. Heh. So the working title of this novel is I Am Single (And Everybody Knows), as suggested by Julie during our long discussions during Altar Boyz days. :P Iâm going back to chick lit lane again, as itâs easier to write plus Iâm sure the novel fits that genre perfectly

I had done my research on the Lincoln by going over to VIN decoder for a check at the accuracy of the car.

Credit Default Swaps: $60 Trillion of Bullshit
Car insurance makes sense. If I drive or own a car, I better have some way to pay for repairs and healthcare if I fuck up. And it makes sense that the insurance company better be tightly regulatedâ"forced to keep enough liquid assets around to pay out claims. If the insurance company failed to pay up, it would be a nightmare for everyone. Credit Default Swaps (CDS) started out as insurance for bonds. For a percent or two a year of the face value of the bond, you received a contract to pay the

Youâve Lost That Branding Feeling
In one way or another, Iâve been involved in a lot of discussions about brand lately, and Iâve come to a horrible conclusion: businesses are killing their brands. They do it in the worst way possible, by making it impossible to see why Brand A is better than Brand B. A while ago, my insurance company, 21st Century was swallowed by AIG. When I was told this, my first reaction was âOh noâ because 21st Century, during the lengthy period of time I was a customer, was very good to me. Dealing with

From The Letter B Carved On Her Face To The Chicken Drumstick On My Table
Readers, this is an experiment. Do it quickly and without thinking about it. Ready? If you're right handed, with your index finger, draw a capital letter 'B' on your left or opposite cheek. Remember where the vertical line is. Is it closer to your nose with the loops toward your ears, or the opposite? If a friend or family member is available, ask them to do this experiment on their face, then ask them to draw the letter 'B' on your face. I tried this on my kids as soon as I saw her photo. T

Top Tips To Avoid Made Up, Dodgy Insurance & Personal Injury Claims

Nebraska v. God (2008): Law in the 21st Century
You canât, much as you may want to, sue God, something I am sure the Lord in His infinite wisdom is almighty glad to hear. What is a Lemon Law?
Anyone who has had the misfortune to purchase a lemon knows that it is an extreme hassle and loss of money. A lemon is a vehicle that is afflicted with the need for constant repairs while the car is still too new to need any repair work. Some places have lemon laws in place for this because it is such a problem. A lemon law is some kind of statute put in place by the government to protect buyers from being stuck with a lemon that is not worth what they agreed to pay for it. A lemon law is desi

Back to Basics: Plan, plan, plan
At the beginning of this series, I mentioned that part of the reason for the series was to remind myself of the basics of wise personal finance. The risk in doing that was that I would run across one (or more) of the basics that I was utterly incompetent in, and would need to write a post on it anyway. Well, this is one of those basics that Iâm really not qualified to write about. Iâm very poor at planning the financial life for me and my family. I still use The Force for most of our spendi

We create our lives
God gives you life and from there we create our lives. I see people eating tuna fish or ramen noodles for lunch and call themselves saving money, yeah you may save a few bucks, but I always tell them it's the big expenses that gets us in trouble, not daily lunches If you have a mortgage that is half your income, you don't need to cut expenses on lunch. Cut the big expense. It makes no sense when a person driving a $500 a month car note and complaining about gas. Gas is not your problem, your

Wingtard Smears Are WORKING!
Wingtard Smears Are WORKING! Keep it up, âtards. Every time you come up with something even more stupid and outrageous, Obamaâs numbers go up. Would you like to know why? Well, I am pleased to tell you. Believe it or not, the guy or gal who is worried about losing his/her home, car, job, medical insurance-they donât give a damn about some college radical who sat on a board created by a Reagan ally. They want to know what direction weâre going from here, and Johnny is a Hydra. Itâs real hard

Love Your Bills!
The end of the month is fast approaching. Time flies. Itâs just seemed yesterday when 2008 started and now itâs almost over. Well, anyway, end of the month for me means due date for the things I need to pay. Bills, bills, bills! But I donât stress out over bills anymore. There was a wonderful book I read which mentioned that we should learn to love our bills. When we do this, positive energy flows more into our lives. I guess itâs true, why worry or stress out about something you know you would

Guy Makes Homemade Lamborghini, Has To Remodel To Get It Out Of House
Guy Makes Homemade Lamborghini, Has To Remodel To Get It Out Of House Let me tell you a story about a man named Ken. Wicked with a torch, he was a master craftsman. One day he decided to build himself a Lamborghini. He built it in his basement. When the project was complete, the only way to extricate the homebrewed exotic was to have a wall removed from his home. Details about this thing are few and far between. I hope at least he is able to find cheap auto insurance because it is a project c

Safety on Shopping Online
I've found online shopping convenient and time-saving, especially if my husband and I only owned one car. It is also saves us gas just to go shopping at the store. Since I came here in US, mostly, I do my shopping online. For me, this is the best way either if you don't have time to go to the store or can't find the certain product to any local store. Most of the time, I have found some nice, durable products online too, and probably simply the reason, I choose to shop online. Most of the people

Something I just noticed on the Light Therapy siteâ¦it says that most insurance will pay for a light box if a doctor prescribes it.  Yeah, rightâ¦as if Cigna would even pay for a 25-watt light bulb! But I didnât want to see a doctor about my SAD, and looking back, itâs a da

The Consequences of Not Having Auto Insurance
If you are one of those people who think auto insurance is a scam, beware. There could be some major payout in your future. Car insurance is extremely valuable, particularly in today`s society as more and more people find themselves involved in accidents that aren`t even their fault. You can literally be the safest driver around and still end up in a car accident. While it may not have been your fault, you may still be liable for some of the damages and this is where it comes in very handy to h

Car accident~> insurance quandry
Hey all. Just got into an accident where I was at fault. Fortunately everyone is OK. The other party only has my name and phone number. It's a company car, so it might get sticky. They've already notified their company insurance people so they're aware of the situation. I do have insurance, but would like to pay out of pocket as it seems that any premium hike will far outweigh the short term loss. The question is, do I have to have my insurance get involved or can I pay out of pocket. If I do,

A Toast to Cancer
A small, red woundâ"no bigger than a poppy seedâ"appeared mysteriously on the bridge of my nose a few months ago. At first it sat there quietly and behaved itself, and I assumed the strange bump would heal steadily and vanish as furtively as it had arrived. Only it didnât, and pretty soon it started to grow bigger and act out. One day it would bleed; the next it would scab over in a sort of mini, leathery patch; and then, right when it seemed the ugly scab had almost disappearedâ"when it seemed we

The #1 Reason Not to Bandit a Race
A few months ago, my wife ran in a trail race where a woman fell and dislocated her finger. She had to be driven to the hospital while the race director filled out an insurance form for the park with the information on her registration. Thankfully, she was okay in the end, but had she hit her head than there could have been a very real possibility that nobody would have known who she was had she not been a part of the race. Many runners are not in the habit of carrying identification when the

Memories Of A BMW 732i [Jalopnik Reality Garage]
Seeing the BMW 735i parked down on the street this morning we were reminded of one of our past rides, a European-spec E23 BMW 732i. Since it was a gray-market import, the papers had been fudged a bit, but we're pretty sure it was a 1983 model. I bought it a few years ago while visiting San Francisco, which seemed like a great idea since I had just totaled my Buick LeSabre and had the insurance cash burning a hole in my pocket. I'm well-versed in '80s BMW trivia, but had never even heard of the

What Iâm really mad about is what they didnât take. It was my car that some petty thief decided to ransack. Chicagoâs window into open design
Iâm in Chicago as a guest lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and loving it. As many of you know, Chicago is an architectural feast, and being able to combine business and architectural sight seeing in such a city is a treat. I am of course biased, as a great number of Chicagoâs landmark buildings and urban plans were designed by Daniel Burnham, but namesakes aside, it has been an honour to be part of this city even for a brief period of time. One of the buildings that has

The simplest way to repair credit is to first set up a household budget. This might sound like it is too, easy but it is the very first step in learning to control your spending and of course control your debt. We all more than likely have things on our credit report that we do not even know are there such as medical bills, student loans, or some items that are not true. Yes, I did say items that are not justified. For an example, when you rent an apartment or house, even if you give your thir

Government Shows Car Thieves How Itâs Done
Well after not renewing my registration for four months and parking my truck on the street next to my house, the city of Trenton finally decided to take it from me. Some time between 9:30PM and 6:15AM a guy came by with a tow truck, broke into the cab, popped the truck in neutral, hoisted it onto the flatbed and drove away. They did this all without me hearing it. My guess is they did it around 3:00AM. I Entered my 1958 Jeep in a Car Show and Will Go Again Next Year
I entered a church-sponsored classic car show here in Fort Smith - (A), Oklahoma. It was put together by the local Chief of Police by the name of Bill Groty. The Chief of Police is a film freak from way back, having a small part in the film "Paisa Hi Paisa". A love of cars was developed over time. I entered my 1958 Jeep in the show 'n shine with the hope of impressing my friends :). I spent 2 hours getting the Jeep. I had done my car history search on the Jeep by going over to vin number che

I Entered my 1964 Ford in a Local Show and Will Go Again Next Year
My wife and I entered a small show and shine here in Houston, Missouri. It was organized by the local Judge by the name of George Broadbent. The Judge is a motorhead from way back, having a small part in the film "Uccidete il vitello grasso e arrostitelo". A love of cars was grown over time. I entered my 1964 Ford in the cruise with the hope of taking home a prize. I spent 3 hours getting the Ford. I had done my vin search on the Ford by going over to VIN decoder for a check at the accuracy

Insurance policy can help your family during tough times.
by Todd Martin Why do I need a life insurance? I am well off both financially and health wise. This is the most common question asked when one is told about life insurance. But have you ever given a time to think that what ever is looking good, tomorrow it may not be the same. After all this is the reality of life and this is where insurance companies come into picture. The accident
A new friend of mine who happened to be my neighbor left her two daughter in our house for 3hours. She asked the favor to me to look after the kids because her husband was in trouble. Heâs husband met an accident last night. He drove home drunk which is against the law her in Aussie. The worst part of it was that he bumped his car with another car and the damage was not that simple. Things turned out worst. They need to pay the penalty of drunk driving. The owner of the other car wants them to

Solar Flare Ratings
Weâre up to our eye balls in opinion polls about the November presidential election. Who has time for ranking solar flares, as if we could? Well, we can, and you donât have to. Solar flares get either a C rating (light), M (for moderate) or X (most powerful). And then we have a number beside the letter which gives an even further modification of the solar flare: ie. X4! Thatâs not a car or SUV! Solar flares create sunspots and weâre not talking a minor zit here! Most sunspots are larger t

10 Easy Ways to Use Less Gasoline
Three weeks ago, just after Hurricane Ike, I spent $70 to fill the tank on my old Volvo. I couldn't believe it. Of course, the station was price-gouging because Charlotte was out of gas. Almost every station in town was out, for 14 days or so. So we had to take whatever gas we could find. I hated that. I hated paying for it, and I felt guilty for using so much gas. Price can be a painful reality check sometimes. We would like to buy a hybrid car, and we've been mulling it over for some time. B

How Much Car Insurance Should You Buy?
How much insurance should you buy? Any insurance agent worthy of their salt will tell you that you should buy as much as you can afford. While this is a good rule of thumb, itâs about as useful as a stock brokerâs tip to buy low and sell high. It might be sound logic but it doesnât get you any closer to an educated decision. There are a few filters that need consideration in order to make that educated decision. First, what is the state required minimum coverage where you live? Second, what doe

Chuck, Nader, Isaiah, Third
Monday, Monday. Another week. First up, NBC's Chuck. Ava and C.I. called it and I'll get to that later, but tonight was must see. Why the show couldn't have started out this way, I have no idea. But tonight was a great episode. I was thinking I'd stop watching after the last two weeks of new episodes. Ava and C.I. said Sunday that this was the one that would restore confidence and they weren't joking. Morgan had a great subplot as did his girlfriend whose name I forget but she really made the s

I love your precious heart
Plugs Today we have a new Sleazy Adventures of Dick Biggman, number 53 is up. Now I am a fan of Biggman, but this one is probably the funniest one of the bunch. I also meant to tell the lot of you . . . guess whoâs still alive and back to blogging . . . You are listening too . . . So, at work today, I was discussing with the ladies (which is mostly what I work with), music from my youth, and now I got a number of songs stuck in my head from that conversation. So we will start with INXS an

Compare Credit Cards today!
Going to school is one of the best decision I made. Since I could borrow some money and used it whenever I needed to. One of the best option to take once you go to school is to get a credit card. Just in case you might need some money to purchase goods, clothing and food. Or maybe a rental payment or for car and auto insurance payment. There's a lot of credit now a days, and even myself has confusion which creadit cards to get. I am just so glad that I have found some site where you can compare

Justice and Junk
Andrew Hill in the FT on the matter of the bonuses of bankers etc - 'The US and the UK have two objectives: to curb future recklessness and - a less worthy aim - to punish past excess.'Â So I get hold of a written-off car. I patch it together to look like new, even though its chassis is held together by duct tape. I create a fake registration and sell it. I would, if caught, be charged and imprisoned. My pleas that everybody else was at it and, anyway, the car registration documents were too

Things to Look Forward To When Getting Older
While many of us certainly wouldnât want to go back through our teenage years again, we are sometimes guilty of wishing we were younger. But getting older isnât as bad as some people would have you believe. For a start, many of us only start to feel comfortable in our own skins as we move into our forties and beyond. We no longer feel that we have to try and live up to the unrealistic images that we see in magazines and on the television and that brings with it a feeling of freedom that cannot

Nannystate phones home
HIS Didnât take long at all. Only two days ago, I first heard about this software (which can tell if your cellphone is moving too fast - like in a car - and turn it off). I joked at work that it would be shutting down my boss and our insurance agents (all of whom like to yammer on the phone while driving). Today itâs been adopted by an insurance company: theyâll give you a discount if you use it. That didnât take long: How long before every company is on that bandwagon? Discounts? No, never m

I stop you for a violation of motor vehicle code or law. You have a weapon. You have a concealed weapons permit. What happens now? I am writing this article as a c

Saving Money and Expenses and Money and Kids
My daughter just asked me for a sleeping bag. So, being the curious mother I am, I asked her why she needed a sleeping bag. She, being the greedy child smarty-pants she is said, âBecause I donât have one.â Oh, well, in that case let me pick one up right away. Iâll swing by and pick up a pony on the way home, because you donât have that either. What I actually said was, âWell we arenât going camping in winter, so maybe next year.â She seemed pleased for the moment, even though she has

Weathering The Credit Storm
How good are you with money? Do you always put your savings first, or are they last on your list of priorities and never seem to get seen to? Whatever type of person you are when it comes to money, there is no doubt that the current economic climate doesnât make saving money any easier than it used to be. With bills on the rise and no sign of an end to our money woes, itâs clear that we need to find another way to make the most of what we have for now. So how do we do this? It stands to reaso

Itâs not a waste of money
Itâs not a waste of money I used to think that Auto Insurance was a waste of money. I paid a lot of money each year to insure my car and what was I getting? Then one day I rented a car. My husband was driving our vehicle home, behind me. I was being really careful to make sure he was still following me because he was unfamiliar with the area and didnât want to get lost. So, just as I was about to make a right turn, I pulled forward, but stopped because I could see a car coming and while I migh

No support.. what to do?
Hi everyone.. I don't know if this was the right place to post this, I hope it was! I figured I could post this here, seeing as how a lot of us on here are aspiring MUAs. I'm at a point where I feel like my family doesn't support me. It really hurts, you know? I'm only 18 and I haven't had the best track record with school. I was born and raised in the boroughs of NYC and the public school system here is very over crowded and not so great. Once HS came, it really hit and I just hated ev

The Secret Of Making Used Cars Work For You.
by Don Pedro Even when you are purchasing a used car online, you have to be careful so that you donât get ripped off. Do not purchase a used car that you have never laid your eyes on. Always try out a used car to see how you can relate with it before you purchase it. You can get used cars from places like Japan or Europe. Used cars imported into the country are known to be far cheaper than those bought within, especially for popular car brands. You donât need to have a mechanic tag along with
