Working Title

I am so very exhausted! The weather here has been nasty and damp, and not to mention my younger sister has been keeping me up all night lately. At midnight she either calls or gets a call from her ex-boyfriend, and then they yell at each other until 3am. Every night. So needless to say, I’ve not been getting all the beauty sleep I desperately need. I had to take out my Monroe it was pierced right under one of my labial frenum (which is the narrow band of tissue that connects two structures; i

Budget Makeover

It has been almost one year since we became debt free. Looking back on this year the one thing we feel like we did not do well is save. We saved about 20% of our income but, with no debt we could be saving much more. In previous months we have created a budget and itemized categories and kept track of every dollar we spent. This worked well, but it has become very time consuming. When we were trying to get out of debt, this budget method was perfect because it allowed us to see where our money

Too Many Projects, Not Enough Time

I'm one of those people that isn't content unless I have multiple projects going on. Unfortunately, this time I bit off more than I could chew. I have to back up and look at my priorities. Sure, it's easy for me to take on 3 new projects, but when we're talking about 7 or 8 new projects, it becomes overwhelming. It's like getting a car insurance quote from too many places. After awhile, they all start to look the same. Isn't it easier to go to one place to get all your needs met? At Insure.com

Delta Sucks! Stuff Stolen from My Luggage

Yesterday, I flew from ORD to CVG to DFW. When I landed in DFW I picked up my luggage and went out to my car for the drive home to Shreveport, LA (about 3 hrs). I opened up my suitcase to get out my TomTom GPS unit and it was GONE!!! I know 100% that I packed it in my luggage when I left Chicago, as I always do when traveling. I couldn't believe that this happened. I even called my hotel in Chicago to verify it was not left behind in the room. So I called Delta to see how they would handle th

Why Get a Good Insurance

Of all the drivers in our family, mom has been the reckless one. She had two major accidents on her car. The first one was when she enters a corner without knowing that a fast bus is approaching on her. Then as a result, a direct hit on the passenger side. Luckily, mom was not hurt with that accident. Then the second one was she bumped a motorcyclist. The third was another accident on a motorcycle due to her sudden braking. Another one was a hitting a cargo truck. All of those accidents accumu

Baby, I Can Now Drive A Car

Last week, I took up a 5-day driving lesson. Though I was a little disappointed with the way things are managed in the driving school, in the end, goal was achieved. I now know how to drive. I decided to take up formal lessons because informal ones doesn’t work well with me. I had a number of sessions with a friend previously but I always end up saying “enough!” after 15 minutes or so. Another thing is that I am a little worried of wrecking his car once panic struck me and though he has a ca

Weird Weekend

This whole weekend has just been a weird one. It started yesterday morning. I was up in our bedroom getting my clothes for the day when I noticed an ambulance turn around in the driveway across the street. This was minutes after I’d seen a flatbed tow truck on the road. I put my flip-flops on and went outside to ask Drew (who had been stacking firewood) if he heard anything. He hadn’t. I walked to the bottom of our driveway and looked down the street and discovered there had been an accident!

Tongue in Cheek

Before I continue my story….just a thought on the whole bail out fiasco going on.  I have this to say…worked there, know them, don’t trust them…at least don’t trust 95% of them.  Did you know they have hidden a little provision in the bill that will kick back 20% of this money to ACORN.  Personally, I wouldn’t give them one thin dime. So…I got this in email and thought it a hilarious solution…tongue in cheek of course! Now, here is an interesting option for our economic crisis.  This combined

The Bailout: We Need One, But Not This One (pfblogs.org)

Markham Lee submits:There are a lot of quotes and analogies being thrown around to describe the current crisis and the proposed bailout plan. I figure it would be remiss of me to "join the crowd" and not offer my take:In my view the current bailout plan is akin to asking the victims of car theft to purchase cars for the thieves, pay for their insurance and a year's worth of gas, so that the they can be spared the personal, financial and daily life disruption of future thefts. "If you buy the car

It’s a no-brainer, isn’t it?

I haven’t griped about the crazy neighbors lately, have I? I have been trying to simply ignore them - quietly hoping that that will, in fact, make them go away. I haven’t succeeded in making them go away yet, but I have managed to keep my little world reasonably calm. Until today, that is. You’d think that a person would understand that with the laws the way they are today people would learn that if you’re going to travel insurance should be a priority. I remember back when I started driving (

How do you cope with Gas Prices?

Hey guys, I'm looking into buying an older truck, and frankly, I'm not the richest guy in the world. I pull in like $80 a week working 2 days, and I know that really isn't anything. Either way, I'm looking at older Ford trucks with big straight sixes in 'em that will get me around 12-18 MPG, and I know, gas prices are ridiculous!!! I drive maybe 100 kms a week. Any of you guys have a gas guzzler? Is it really that bad? You think I'd be better to go with a small car? Keep in mind, I'm a

How to File an Auto Insurance Claim

Thousands of accidents happen monthly and if you find yourself as a part of this statistic, you’re not alone, so don’t worry.  Since people don’t get into accidents every other day, some drivers have no idea on what to do once the accident is done with.  I compiled a quick list on what you need to do in order to file an automotive insurance claim. File a police report - When the accident happens and if it’s too late now, make sure that you filed a police report.  If you did, great, if not, you

I was looking for an excuse to rant, and back came the DVLA, just in time.

Since they are incapable of managing my car tax history without sparks flying from within their addled brains, I can only assume that the DVLA’s sole purpose is to irk me until I suffer a seizure. I appreciate their efforts, but really, a government agency spendin millions should be doing more than just that. And right now I’m not sure that it is. Today I attempted to get a tax disc, after they failed to send me a reminder and for some reason known only to themselves wouldn’t let me renew on l

Answers To Why You Should Get Multiple Quotes For Car Insurance.

by Susan Tanner Buying a car is a major decision in a person’s life. You will need to have car insurance before you even buy a car, and when you do purchase a car, you have to inform your insurance company. Many people wonder if it is worth their time to get many different quotes for car insurance when it is quicker just to look at just a few quotes and pick one from them. Even though one might be concerned about the amount of time it could take to get multiple quotes from different insurance

One Reader’s Take on Using a Scooter for Transportation

Clair blogs over at Frugal Living Freedom. She recently left a great comment on my article, Ditch the SUV and Scoot Your Way to Gas Savings. I was so impressed I had to put it on the front page to share with everyone. A scooter is a great way to have economical transportation in and around metropolitan areas, as long as you aren’t going a great distance. It also helps if you live somewhere the weather will permit you to make use of such a form of transportation for most of the year. Many folk

We just got really close to carrying a balance

I felt like we dodged a bullet tonight. I was checking balances on some of my accounts and I loaded up the balance on our primary checking account.  I knew it was going to be low.  We had had a couple of big expenses (a six-month car insurance premium and a replaced central air system) that gave us a whopper of a Visa bill, which was paid in full about a week ago. After my wife balanced the checkbook, she told me "not to go to the ATM until the end of the month," which was more or less right

Renting a Car in Sydney: A Practical Ready Reckoner

by Amy Nutt Plan to holiday in Sydney, Australia? Well, indeed a good choice, but how do you get about once you land there? Hire a car of course! There are many ways in which a car can be hired out here. The easiest (but not necessarily cheapest) way is to ask your travel agent to do the needful. This would save you a lot of trouble but is perhaps not the best bargain. Your travel agent may have ‘tie ups’ with some Sydney car rental company which pays him a commission which means he makes money

Yipee! Ella’s here. I miss my niece so much and the house is merrier now that they are here for the weekend. The moment they arrived, I am about to finish reading about online car insurance quotes. So I am familiarizing myself with how that works. Who knows, we might need it one of these days? By then at least I know how it works.

It's Not You, It's Me. And My Raging PMS. • Bad days Wow, it’s been a really crappy day. On my way to school, I got smucked from behind by...wait for it...wait for it...yes, a college student on his way to the same place I was headed (no, he wasn't actually one of MY students, but still, the irony is kinda funny, right?

spinal rap

I spent the morning lying on a heating pad and praying for death, waiting to hear one word back from the HR woman I had emailed earlier.  The email that said “I want to come back, I can haz lumbar pillowz?”  Never heard back from her, but around noon I decided that I was bored enough, back to work with me!  I had taken my muscle relaxer (which doesn’t help AT ALL, so I’m taking it for a placebo effect.  Before you ask: no.  no it doesn’t work that way, either) and was ready to roll.  In my car.

Automobile Loans After Bankruptcy

by Thulas Sukati We all like to have a new car from time to time and it is often the finance that deters us but these days the preferred method is to arrange an auto loan, The good thing about this type of finance is it’s secured on the vehicle being purchased,as the balance is gradually paid off, the amount of credit at risk decreases. Of course the type of car you can but will depend on your available credit but you might be able to find better car deals on the internet. Many sites allow you

Massachusetts Banruptcy Laws For Automobile Loans

by Thulas Sukati Auto loans seem to be the chosen method for many people to buy the car they desire without the need to use savings or any other type of finance. If you haven’t used a loan like this before, it is a great way to fund a car because it is secured by a lien on the vehicle being purchased, the balance decreases as the borrower makes each payment on the loan. Once you have been allocated your budget, the more enjoyable side to the process occurs as you take time to search for a car th

On Inspiration (Again)

‘What inspires the blogger of late To make no more of a wall than an open gate’ (After Robert Frost, a Cow in Apple Time) This inspiration issue is truly becoming an issue with me. Friends even mail me to check if I am really alright. (Thank you Theo, Mark and Dimphy). No, I am fine. I just bought a new car, the school year has started (no report cards due until December, so that’s always a good time), my housekeeper says she’ll stay on until the new one comes in, which takes a load off my bac

Advice from two millionaires

I greatly fear my old boss thinks I’m an idiot â€" so I’m going to change, starting now A while ago I went to have dinner in New York with him. He was CEO of the Ogilvy Group when I adorned the worldwide board as all-round buffoon and trouble-maker. He asked me: “Do you make any money out of your blog?” I replied, “No, I just do it for fun.” He gave me that special look he reserves for idiots. I gathered that (not for the first time) he thought I was making a mistake. Since his apartment alo

Application For Personal loan For People With Bad Credit

by Thulas Sukati Lenders these days like to make applying for a loan a simple matter but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be aware of a few facts, which should help your search for a loan that suits your circumstances. There are some simple but basic rules to follow and provided this is carried out you will not apply for the wrong loan. Firstly, you would do well to locate finance companies that you can apply to,however, by looking around you will be surprised just how much money can be saved. T

Submit Your Car Insurance Claim Without Going Crazy

by Susan Tanner A person buying a car is required by law to buy insurance for it even before he drives away from the lot. Buying car insurance is the most sensible and important thing a person buying a car does. What type of cover you wish to have depends on you. You can get a cheap car insurance quote by browsing on the internet. If you have bought a comprehensive cover then you can sit back and relax. In the event that you and your vehicle are involved in an accident or theft, an insurance c

Build Your Credit While Still in School

Build Your Credit While Still in School September 25th, 2008 College is a great time to get into trouble with credit cards. It’s just so easy to apply for them, sometimes even on campus. But it’s also very easy to get into trouble with credit cards while you’re that young. There’s nothing wrong with getting a credit card when you’re in college. It may even be helpful if you need just a little time to pay for you books and necessities. But many students just can’t handle it. Credit card

We're Planning of Buying a New Car

Mk loves cars, they’re one of his favorite materials in life; I guess all men do. I do love cars too but unlike others, I don’t fancy having a very expensive one; in fact I don’t own one. Why? Let’s just say that I prefer being driven than being the driver. I grew up having my uncle and my ever loving father to drive me around, albeit I have a driver’s license, still I prefer not to drive. The last time I drove a car was years ago, I used to take our car to work with me. When we were in Bahrain,

Story Ideas from a Bizarre Trauma

Story Ideas from a Bizarre Trauma By Deb Gallardo If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! I read a news article recently about a six-year-old girl whose hand was severed by a jump rope she was playing with by feeding it out the car window. The rope caught in the rear axle and her hand went out the window. The number of possible story ideas from this reside not just in the big issue and what must have been terrifying trauma for both mother and ch

Hump day, hump day. Only two more days to get through to make it to the weekend. We can do it! :D In good news, Friday's debate may have been called off. McCain's saying it is, Barack's saying it's not. I guess Barack will stand on stage by himself if it comes to that. He does love the camera. Katie Couric interviewed Sarah Palin on the CBS Evening News tonight. The second part airs tomorrow. Okay, politics on hold now. How come? Dad called me and asked, "Did you hit your head?" :D He wen

hit and run...

So I was about to hop on my bike to get to class (already 5 minutes late), when from a distance I notice something resting on my seat...Closer, I realize that its a footpeg - MY FOOTPEG. I look down to see that it had been ripped off (the right side) when a car had probably rammed into it. It was on its centerstand at the time. I check the otherside for damage...It had fallen over...but thankfully only a couple minor scratches - the handlebar took the brunt of the fall. And yeah, thats bent to s

Irony

A month after I have paid for my car insurance I received another car insurance quote in the mail. The annoying thing is that this quote has much better rates and better coverage. My previous insurance has removed the clause allowing free towing (which I used twice last year) and so I now have to pay for my own towing service if ever I have car troubles. The quote I received covered 5 towing services….5!!! Talk about wrong timing, it reminds me of Alanis Morisette’s song…Isn’t it Ironic…don’t y

Don’t Be Dim When Driving In the Sun

We all love the sunshine, but we’re not always that well prepared for coping with it when it does finally arrive. This is especially the case when it comes to driving. No matter what age your car is and how well equipped it is to handle hot weather, it is still down to you to make sure that your journey is as comfortable as possible â€" regardless of whether you are travelling for miles or just down the road. When we think about dangerous weather conditions we often think of rain, snow and ice.

Dependable Car Insurance Companies- How to Find one?

by Steven A. Smaldery Due to there being hundreds of companies for car insurance out there it has become challenging to decide on the right one. In order to decide upon a car insurance company that is not only dependable but that can meet the needs that you have as a customer. To do this there are things that have to be considered. When making your final decision there are a few vit

I Am Confused

While I have been offline there seems to have been a new form of government invented? One where our "leaders" (who used to be known as representatives) decide that We The People are now some sort of lending institution, lending money to bad lenders who badly lent money to bad lenders to buy bad loans....or something like that? Does this mean that We The People now own the housing industry? Or just the part of it that loans money to people who can't pay us back? Billions of dollars seem to be goi

Do you want to make 50 dollars more every day? That would pay for lots of things for me, like car payment, health insurance, electric bill and more. That could hold my attention. It all starts with learning how to Make 50 Dollars A Day Online. If you add up all of those days and dollars you g

I am posting here, probably more appropriate, as I wanted to just say a few things which would not be "on topic" in the Tech or General Discussion area. This is really just a "shooting the breeze" post. I have noticed in the Forums a great number of younger members not only buying cars, but from their questions and comments, it would appear they have no clue about expenses. How to Safely Build Your Credit History

I’ve heard from several high schoolers and early college students asking for advice on how to build up their credit history in a safe and responsible manner. One of them is “Jenna”: I’m currently a freshman at Washington University. I know I need to build up some good credit for the future, when I have to get a car loan and such, but I don’t know where to start. I’m worried about getting way into debt like some people I know. Building a positive credit rating was one of the things I did right

Angels

I was driving down the highway, headed home from a gathering with other China born kiddos the same age as the Artificial Twins. I was close to my exit when the guy in front of me swerved into the left lane. Suddenly right in front of me was a hide-a-bed with metal supports sticking straight into the air. On both sides of me were other cars with one in the back. I had no other choice. I had to hit the bed. I quickly exited with the plan to pull over and check out the damage. That’s when I becam

Online Road Tax and Insurance Renewal via myeg

Realising that it could take me at least 2-3 days if I go through the agent, I decided to try the online renewal service pro

Why I’m Offline Today

Last year today, my brother died in a car accident. He was only 24 and left behind a then 8 week old and 1 year old and a wife. It’s sad but we are so thankful we had the time together that we did. The real estate community reached out to our family at that time in an unprecedented way- money was raised for my brother’s wife because he was so young, insurance wasn’t a thing on his mind and with kiddos, it looked like a tough road. We’re all still recovering, each in our own ways but I wanted t

Help Me Settle This Argument

In my defense, I never said it wasn't ALL MY FAULT. My friend Gubby and I have an ongoing argument. HA -- many ongoing arguments. But this one argument that keeps coming up is driving me a bit nuts, and maybe all y'all can weigh in for me. About three years ago I got in a car accident, my first. No one was injured, and I didn't even get a ticket, but it was completely, 100%, inarguably MY FAULT. I shot across a busy intersection without having a clear view, in a split second, for no reason I ca

What’s Up With Recent Gas Prices ?

by Adrian Fletcher Will gas prices ever go down? That is the question that is on the mind of just about every car owner but also many business owners too. It might come down a bit but the chances of it returning to the levels of around a year ago are unlikely. Everyone is feeling the pinch, especially individuals who rely on their cars to commute to work but havent the extra cash to spend on a larger gasoline bill. Demand for gasoline will drop as drivers use their cars less. They may develop

Seven Steps Week 35

Can you believe the turmoil in global economies right now? We are not alone in this mess. No one is to blame and everyone is toblame, but blame gets us nowhere. Right now the only question we should be asking is what we can do to make sure our families are protected as much as possible. We have talked about 72 hour kits, auto kits, disaster preparations for our home, food storage and so much more. This past week my son had the opportunity to help a family in Texas as they began recovery from h

Something’s Gotta Give in the Economy and Health Care

Perhaps it is because I am one of those uninsured Americans that I take this issue more seriously than I did a year ago.  Back then I was employed by a State College and was receiving full Health Insurance and decent pay.  Now I’m unemployed.  Since then I was put on my wife’s insurance for a few month, but then the theatre she works for reneged on the deal because of a budget crisis and I am back without insurance starting this month of September 2008, the same month that the economy has taken

So, hypothetically speaking...

what happens when the car you rented for work somewhat violently meets road debris (and by violently, I'm saying that I was probably about 2 feet from death but I am trying not to think about that). And the grill of the car is kind of dragging and there's a big dent in the drivers door? I'm just asking hypothetically, because that definitely did not happen to me. But I did get an answer to the question "what would happen if the car in front of you drove over a truck tire tread in the road and p

Friends Come For A Reason, A Season, a Lifetime, or Yanno, FOUR DAYS.

I feel like a 5 year old saying this, but I made a friend here at the rental.  She’s the lady next door and she has 3 little ones. Her two oldest (a girl and a boy) and my two sons have been playing together non-stop and doing a good job of tiring each other out for early bedtimes.  Normally I’m not a huge fan of other people’s kids, but any kids who tire out Thomas like this are heroes in my book. The kids are nice, although being 3 and 5, a little annoying with the knocking and the doorbell

Government To Steal $15,000 From Every American Household To Bailout Big Banks and Lenders

NOTE: Image below is $15,000 Cash . . . pretty nice, huh? If someone came into your home and held you at gunpoint and forced you to fork over $15 thousand dollars in cash (provided, of course, you kept such a large amount at home), you’d call the cops as soon as you could, wouldn’t you? Depression

Well, it sure looks like it. I tend to shut my ears to the news these days - there seems to be no end to the bad news about the global economy. I can’t say we’re not experiencing it ourselves. I find myself being much more aware of what I’m spending these days, especially with regard to food. Which, I might add, is what most of our money seems to go towards. As well as electricity, telephone, repairs (grrr!) and insurance. I’ve been a loyal insurance customer in the past, but I’ve done a bit o

Our first child goes to college

This weekend, my wife, my son, and I brought my daughter Katie to college to begin her first year. As with millions of parents before us, we ran the full gamut of emotions but ultimately I think it went well in that regard. We haven’t lost a daughter, we’ve gained a daughter in college. We live in western upstate New York and the trip to Chicago is a bit shy of 600 miles (966 kilometers). Since we were going to have to travel on Friday anyway, we picked up our son after school on Thursday and

I got really good information from them and the best price for insurance. I ended buying a van from a work college but was very

World Carfree Day

I didn’t know until a very short while ago that today is World Carfree Day. We’re all supposed to be ditching our cars today in favour of public transport, walking or cycling. I guess I’ve done my bit by cycling to work as I usually do. The organisers are very keen for people to get out of their cars not just for the day but forever. I must say that while I love cycling and truly believe that we could use our cars a lot less, I’m not convinced that abandoning all cars is the answer. I think

How To Asses Your Needs And Choose The Right Secured Loan

How To Asses Your Needs And Choose The Right Secured Loan by Chris Channing Secured loans are a common loan amongst those with good credit that need a bit of extra cash. There are several types of secured loans, and people often go into a loan without really considering what they need. A person that wants to buy an expensive luxury car may end up getting a mortgage on their home, when doing so is not necessary, and some may file for several small loans when they could have easily gotten a larg

How Survive On One Income.

by Jessica Franks The economy is slowing down and our family’s incomes are being tightened. In order to survive, we all need to plan ahead. How do you think you will make it? So start making a plan. Planning is the only way. Make on and stick to it. Combine the reduction of income and the increase of expenses with rising costs of food, gas, and basic supplies many are asking themselves how will we survive it all. The reduction of income can bring stress to the family as they look for a way to

I Hate Taxes

I hate state income taxes. I tried, back in April to make an arrangement with the state of Iowa to pay my state income taxes. I was making an arrangement because I didn’t have enough money to pay it all at once. They told me to wait until after April 30th, and then I’d get a notice. When I got the notice, they said I’d get the option to make a payment arrangement. Ok, fine. I never got a notice. I got in touch with them again, and they said to just wait until I got a notice. Whatever. So in Au

Will God Give You More Than You Can Handle

Will God Give You More Than You Can Handle By Jen | September 21, 2008 I am often asked this question… and so many people say that God will not give you more than you can handle. Honestly, I don’t believe that is true. God would not give us things that keep causing us to suffer and experience bad times. I do believe though that God will see us through all the things that do happen. I love my almighty Father and I honestly do not know where I would be today without him. As this last year ha

I Don’t Know

It’s one of those questions again! You know, the ones that make Monster Mama tremble. He’s at it again! Mama, what’s the sound of the cockroach? My son asked me this morning. Aba malay ko! Coming from the Monster Mom, that would have been an apt answer but of course, I didn’t tell him that. I don’t have the heart to do that I don’t know,  I conceded. Matt really has a way of reminding me that there are far too many things I still have to learn -parenting or otherwise (i.e

The Man From Uncle

I hold the receiver close against my ear. The busses crackle against the wires as they whirr past and people talk excitedly by the stop on the pavement. The dial tone cuts out and Doozy (see Doozy on my sidebar) picks up the phone. She doesn’t sound like I thought she would. I had her down as an MTV voice. She’s wackier. Less rehearsed. Excellent. She couldn’t get the phone yesterday because she was at her desk. She was waiting for me to call back. She is happy for us to meet tomorrow. I bid her

Again?

Geez, I can’t believe it that time pass so fast! In another few months our car’s insurance will be due again. The thing is, PiggyBeng wanted to pay half yearly for it so we have to always remember to go make the payment. Luckily everything can be done online now so we can pay our auto insurance online. Really save a lot of our time. Before that, we normally get PiggyBeng’s aunt who is in the industry to help us but it can be troublesome to get her to help us all the time. Anyway, I will ask P

Scrap-it program works well

Over a couple months ago, I went out on a camping trip with a bunch of friends. This was at a place that wasn’t on most maps, roughly east of Manning Park (and not in any park boundaries). It required driving about 30-35km along a forest service road, of which approximately a third was deactivated. Now, while my friends had an Toyota SUV, I had my 1988 Cutlass Supreme, which surprisingly made it there and back, but it took some damage along the way. The first problem was that I noticed the car

I don’t think so and I’m positive I came to a complete stop at that last stop sign.”   As the officer gets out of his car and puts on his trooper hat you can see that look in his eyes that confirms it…Yep, I’m gonna get a ticket but what in the hell did

Inspirational story #225 The Burden

Here’s another good inspirational story: The Burden “Why was my burden so heavy?” I slammed the bedroom door and leaned against it. Is there no rest from this life? I wondered. I stumbled to my bed and dropped onto it, pressing my pillow around my ears to shut out the noise of my existence. “Oh God,” I cried, “let me sleep. Let me sleep forever and never wake up!” With a deep sob I tried to will myself into oblivion, then welcomed the blackness that came over me. Light surrounded me as

WHY do I write?

The other night my 10-year-old, Sam, was standing at the kitchen table painting a skull on the back of a worn out skateboard. He’s constantly asking me to buy him hats, shirts, and shorts (which fills the boys’ racks at Rich’s these days, for some reason) and shoes decorated with skulls."Why in Heaven’s name are you fixated on all these dark, ugl

Gotta cold

Thursday! One day until the weekend! Longest week of my life. And I've got a cold. I'm thinking about blowing off tomorrow. (Classes.) About three o'clock today, my eyes started itching and I was rubbing and not paying attention to that. Then I started thinking, "How many times did I sneeze today?" Before I could answer I sneezed three times in a row. And then I noticed the phlegm (sp?). So I've got a cold and it's a nasty one. One of those ones when you just don't want to move. Flat tire in the Big Dig tunnels

Last night on the way back home I got a flat tire, my first one in years.  I was driving on I-93 north into downtown Boston a little past midnight.  There was much construction going on, so the two right lanes were closed.  There was not much traffic. I'm just cruising along (below the speed limit, thank you very much), when all of I sudden I hear a bang and feel a jerk on the back right side of the car.  Sure enough, the tire pressure warning indicator lights up. Unfortunately I had to go a lit

McCain: My guy Gramm caused this problem, now let us fix it

We were talking yesterday about AIG, its collapse, and why the mortgage crisis would hurt insurance companies, and I had no idea. Since then I've heard an excellent interview on Fresh Air and done some reading on the topic, and I think I have a bit of an answer. I may be missing some of the details, but it looks pretty damning for McCain and his economic plans. To understand this we need to go back to a pretty ugly time, a time back in December, 2000, right after that thug Scalia and his henchm

As the cost of petrol and diesel is, as always, increasing, many people are feeling the pinch and are reluctantly having to use their cars less and less. Add to the fact that road taxes and car insurance prices are also increasing, and you have your reasons for not driving your cars â€" because it is just too expensive to run and maintain. But are there s

What exactly is the return on a NASCAR investment?

To run a full time Competitive Sprint Cup NASCAR team these days an owner must find 30 million dollars in sponsor money. For the owner he gets to operate that team, for the sponsor they get more exposure. That exposure comes not only in driver appearances but in actual TV time as each race gets run. Over the last week or so I have been looking at the number of times a certain race car driver gets mentioned or shown during the live race broadcast. This is where we see the return for the sponoso

Thanks to the internet and cell phone we still get to catch up with one another’s lives. And last weekend, I talked to this cousin J who is planning to buy a car. We checked

Freepers taking up arms, predicting race riots if Obama loses

OK, folks, the swamp-dwellers are are off the rails. Look at this post, "Preparing for the "Big What if": Buying a gun." It's full-blown Fear Of A Black Planet hysteria. The purpose of this thread is to help Freepers and lurkers decide upon what the best mode of self defense would be in the case of the breakdown in social order such as happened with the Rodney King riots. Joe Brower owns one of the RKBA (Right to Keep and Bear Arms) ping lists. I tried to convince him to open this vanity because

Getting a Car Loan

We have been talking about getting a new car by next year. It would either be the car that, hopefully, will be given to Edil by next year by his company, or, a new one we would be getting on our own. It would be the first time we would be getting one so we are anxious. But with the inflation rate is going, there is no better time to spend money (if you have it) than now. Car Loans offered today are very tempting - they have lowered interest rates and have packaged several freebies - free car in

The hubby and his cars.

My husband is into cars since college. I always can’t seem to understand why he buys expensive cars but I guess I just have to ask myself why I love designer bags too and I should know the answer. As I am addicted to bags, he is to cars. Fair deal? I guess. But you see, the thing is, when the husband gets tired of a certain car, he sells them which I am sure I won’t do with any of my designer bags. Not ever! You can count on that. Anyway, back to the husband, he sells his cars after some time

Faith and Credit

The pitiable state of the economy is hardly something that needs to be pointed out to this readership. Rational thought has been appalled by the misuse of the eons of credit that this country has built up, and that it is now destroyed is not a surprise. The only parties still saying our fundamentals are sound are those who began their destructive progress convinced that a lie would be just as good as the truth, and that all they needed to do to steal from as sound an institution as the U.S. wa

1966 Was a Good Year For vintage car : Or Enjoying History in My Collector Car

The classic car of your dreams is out there Go out and don't hesitate, there's a world of good priced vintage cars out there. Buy a vintage car now before the price goes up! You won't regret it. I've had too much fun to mention :). Jenny and I have owned our 1966 vintage car now for probably 4 years. For that length of time we've been living well with the car. The climate is fair in northern Wisconsin, near New Richmond, and we enjoy driving in the car during the fall months. Our opinion is I

Insurance You Can Avoid

If you are careful about trying to manage your money, you will have probably put yourself in a position where you have low overheads and probably only have the mortgage and car payments to worry about. If you have good for you because unlike many you will save yourself a fortune in insurance payments during your lifetime. Insurance is a great help when things go wrong and you haven’t they money in the bank to purchase a new one, but the problem here is over a four or five year period you coul

My wife and I Entered the 1967 Oldsmobile in a Show ‘n Shine and Saw My Future

My friend and I entered a regional vintage car show here in Payson, Utah. It was organized by the local Fire Marshal by the name of Jim Pellet. The Fire Marshal is a movie fan from way back, having a small part in the film "Obmanutye". A love of cars was nurtured slowly. I entered my 1967 Oldsmobile in the car show with the intention of getting a trophy. I spent 2 hours getting the Oldsmobile. I had done my research on the Oldsmobile by going over to classic car VIN site for a check at the a

In which I whine. Again.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose.  Romans 8:28 Gasp…must…have…internet. I’ve been cut off from the world.  Did you miss me as much as I missed y’all?  It’s been a doozy of a week month quarter.  Everything is breaking around here, and it had to happen right in the middle of our 30 Days of Nothing experiment. First, the car broke.  That was a long time ago, right after we paid way too much for a new transmission b

Excited!

We had electricians in all weekend and as a result, there was mess everywhere and my Mum and I went out most of the day yesterday. We stopped off at a small used car dealership and had a look and I fell in love! The car is a: V reg (1999), 1.3 litre Renault Clio. It's SO tidy inside and the seats are like giant beanbags! It has central locking, power steering and very cheap insurance. But to make it even cheaper, I am going to go onto my Mum's policy as a named driver. We found that if I have

Elite Intellectuals?

There are some in the press that have posited someone who has an IQ over 120 as not only intellectual but an elitist, as though somehow the two are synonymous. And, if someone can give a good speech they are somehow just show and not subsance. Republicans have been hammering Obama for that which Sarah Palin did Wednesday night (excepting the below the belt shots). News Flash! Both Obama and Palin had and have their speeches written for them. They just deliver the words! The goal of any
