Buy a fuel efficient, reliable car that you plan on driving for many, many years. Keep it once you have paid it off and you will save a lot of money every month on car payments, taxes and insurance. My husband and I both drive japanese imports that are over ten years old and get 30 miles to the gallon or more. Our insurance is less than $60 a month, no car payments, and taxes are less than $200 a year. I read somewhere recently that you can save $30,000 just by driving the same car for 15 years
